The annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration was held on March 10th. The Jamestown Area Medical Associated sponsored this year’s St. Patrick’s Day parade that began at 1:00pm and traveled East on Fourth Street and South on Main Street to Brooklyn Square. Parade goers lined the Chadakoin River along the Riverwalk to see Jamestown’s famous Leprechaun magically turn the river green. Newly added activities took place in Brooklyn Square for everyone in the family to enjoy before and after the parade. Free train rides and free stagecoach rides were provided. Fiddler, Jenna Moynihan, played Irish Jigs while the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce handed out free cookies and coffee. The Brooklyn Square Café sold Guinness Irish Stew and AVON representatives sold St. Patrick’s Day pins for chances to win $500 in cash. “The St. Patrick’s Day committee worked very hard on the St. Patrick’s Day afternoon activities,” remarked Tiffani Reynolds, DJDC Special Projects Manager. “We wanted a fun, family environment for everyone to enjoy St. Patrick’s Day – and that is exactly what we provided” St. Patrick’s Day festivities continued at the Holiday Inn with a traditional Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner at 6:30pm. The famous Celtic band, The Glengarry Bhoys, returned to Jamestown for another spectacular performance. Additional entertainment included the 96th Highlanders Pipes and Drums Corps and the O’Sullivan School of Irish Dance. The St. Patrick’s Day committee is already planning next year’s celebration with a surprise Parade Grand Marshall already in the works. The 2008 St. Patrick’s Day Celebration and Parade will take place on March 15, 2008. More details will follow as the event draws closer. For general comments contact Tiffani Reynolds at 664-2477
